Key benchmark indexes trimmed gains in early afternoon trade. At 1:00 pm the barometer index, the BSE Sensex, was down 0.09% at 27,028.41, while the Nifty 50 index was trading 0.06% at 8,354.65. On BSE, 1,490 shares rose and 947 shares fell. A total of 169 shares were unchanged.
Tata Motors gained about 2% after it has reported that it is launching 20 projects to cut costs and improve efficiency. Metal and Oil & Gas sectoral indices gained close to 2% each led by gains in JSW Steel, Hindalco, NMDC, SAIL and JSPL.
Bajaj Corp was down 3.49 P&G Hygiene & Health Care down 1.16%, and Godrej Consumer Products were down 0.33%. Lupin grew 1.41% after the Company has obtained final nods from US drug regulator to market a generic version of Apotex Technologies, Inc's Paxil CR tablets.
BSE will hit the market today with its IPO of Rs 1,243 crore, which will be priced at Rs 805-806 per share and will close on January 25. Meantime, Overseas, Asian stocks were trading on a mixed note after Trump inauguration.
